Why become a member? 

By becoming a member, you’ll gain the knowledge and community to turn your interest in Oakland’s future into action, and help build the thriving Oakland we know is within reach. You’ll have opportunities to connect hyper-locally and foster a community of purpose with neighbors and friends. You’ll deepen your understanding of barriers to progress in Oakland and explore pragmatic solutions to our most pressing issues. Together, we’ll learn from subject matter experts and each other, take action, and drive Oakland’s comeback.

 

Member benefits and opportunities

• Happy hours and meet-ups for members and friends
• In-person and online “learning sessions” with local leaders and experts in policy, governance, and community organizing
• Influence and shape Empower Oakland’s strategy and priorities through membership surveys, focus groups, and committee work
• Nominate local businesses and community leaders to be spotlighted and celebrated in Empower Oakland’s communications
• Join or start communication groups to connect with other members by neighborhood, interest area, and affinity/identity group

Member commitments

• Volunteer in at least 2 “actions” a year, by supporting the work of Empower Oakland and community partners
• Uphold principles of inclusivity, curiosity, and respectful debate in our online and in-person forums
• Optional – join a committee to drive Empower Oakland’s core work
• Optional – donate what you can
